I’m a consultant gastroenterologist and have a thriving practice. I’m certain that I’m not alone when I say that being a physician itself does not guarantee financial security. Contrary to older times, one has to work much more to build and enjoy the lifestyle one envisioned during their strenuous years of medical education and training. The rate of physician burnout and dissatisfaction at work is exponentially increasing. In my opinion, an hour spent working as a physician is probably multiple hours of a different job due to the mental, emotional and physical exhaustion involved in executing patient care. I decided early on during my training that I’ll make practicing medicine a choice rather than a need and to do that I needed to be financially independent.
My husband was working for oil and gas at that time. We already had invested into a few single-family homes that we were renting and getting some cash flow however that came with significant responsibilities, such as maintaining the property, finding tenants, and dealing with any issues that arise and the gains were marginal. We decided to grow into commercial multi-family real-estate and that led us to build Headway Capital. Over the last seven years, we have acquired multiple properties in the greater Houston and Phoenix area and continue to expand our horizon.
